This is the USS San Francisco CA-38 built in 1:350 scale by Keith Bender from a Classic Warships kit. This was built on a commission from Jack Wallace, son of the former crewmember LTJG John Wallace. LTJG Wallace was aboard the San Francisco during the famous barroom brawl that was the Naval Battle of Guadacanal on the night of November 13, 1942, where he earned the Purple Heart for the wounds he sustained in the action.

EQUATOR CROSSING 1939

These pictures are from Hoyt Hannah's San Francisco photo album. He was a Coxswain  who served aboard the Frisco from Feb. 28, 1939 until Nov 13, 1942 when he was mortally wounded and sent back to Oakland Naval Hospital where he died on Dec. 20, 1942.
