All of the ships named have long disappeared from the active list of ships of the United States Navy.

The USS CALLAGHAN (DD-792) was sunk by a kamikaze aircraft at Okinawa on July 25, 1945, the last American warship lost in World War II.

The USS SLATER (DE-766), decommissioned after WWII, in 1951 was conveyed to Greece where she became the EATOS in the Greek Navy.  Later inactivated, in 1991 she was donated by Greece to the U.S. Destroyer Escort Historical Foundation, and in 1993 returned to the U.S. where she was later restored to become the USS SLATER (DE-766) historical ship museum in Albany, New York.

Note:  Names of others who served aboard the USS SAN FRANCISCO and later had ships named after them, such as Lt.Cdr. Bruce McCandless, Medal of Honor recipient, will be later posted in a separate list.
